Weight your weeks by domain, not by service count

DEA-C01 is not evenly split. Domain 1 alone is more than a third of the scored content, so an even four-way split underinvests in the part most likely to decide your result.

Scoring is compensatory: no per-domain minimum, everything rolls into one scaled total against a passing score of 720. A strong domain can carry a soft one, but leaving Domain 4 as an afterthought is still a common way to fall short.

A concrete 8-week plan (the typical case)

Ingestion and transformation. Chapters 1 to 13: streaming versus batch, Kinesis Data Streams, Amazon Data Firehose, Amazon Managed Service for Apache Flink, AWS Glue, Redshift ELT, orchestration. Two weeks here is deliberate, this is 34% of the exam.
Week 3
Data stores. Chapters 14 to 22: Redshift versus DynamoDB versus RDS, data lakes on S3, the Glue Data Catalog, schema evolution, Apache Iceberg, lifecycle policies.
Week 4
Operations and support. Chapters 23 to 30: Athena, Redshift Spectrum, log analysis, data quality checks. Get CloudWatch versus CloudTrail airtight, it shows up constantly.
Week 5
Security and governance. Chapters 31 to 36: IAM authentication, IAM policies versus Lake Formation, KMS, Macie, audit logging. The smallest domain and the one most often skipped.
Week 6
Build something. Wire one pipeline end to end in your own account: S3 landing zone, a Glue crawler and job, an Athena query, a CloudWatch alarm. This turns memorized service names into recognizable scenarios.
Weeks 7 to 8
Diagnose, drill, book. Take the readiness quiz, re-read the chapters behind your two weakest domains, and work scenarios until you can say why the runner-up loses. Book when no domain trails badly.

Compress or stretch: on AWS daily? Skim Weeks 1 to 5 in two weeks, then spend the rest on Domain 4 and scenario practice. New to AWS? Double Weeks 1 to 5 and keep the hands-on week where it is.
